... MinKS, CHeeSE caKE, KITTENS 'N PasTrieS all DAY ...! 2012 - Pen and Ink, Acrylic Paint & Tissue Paper
Back to Basquiat...is my attribution to Jean Michael's deeper than popular energies. He had a dark edge to many of his works that reflected his struggle in life. As an expressive Artist, I found his painting style enlightening. He painted like they attempt to teach you in drawing and painting class...he painted Deliberately. What stuck with me in his imagery - in my social commentary, was the use of line and rough edges as well as bold strokes...the sinister look of some of his main figures, the translucent layers of Wash or paint where you can see the under painting...the texting reflecting consciousness. What Jean Michael mastered was both complexity and simplicity in an individualized signature.
